Teaching Experience

Eugene currently holds the position of Instructor of Music Business at Western Illinois University, where he also teaches a private studio. He previously maintained a private studio in Iowa City, Iowa, and, before relocating to Iowa, taught marching band, middle school, and high school students in Texas and North Carolina.

Eugene designs lessons and sets goals tailored to each student's individual skill level and interests, believing that music builds skills essential to a student's overall well-being. His private students have achieved recognition at the state and national level, including selection to Iowa All-State ensembles and prizewinner placements at the MTNA Senior Competition.

Eugene earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from The University of Texas at Austin, completing pedagogy coursework in woodwind, brass, and percussion. While in Austin, he taught masterclasses and private lessons throughout the greater Austin area, served as a region band audition adjudicator for area middle and high schools, and student-taught at Stephen F. Austin High School and O. Henry Middle School, gaining experience ranging from beginning woodwinds and brass to concert and jazz band rehearsal.

Eugene completed his Master of Music in Saxophone Performance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, studying with Dr. Robert Young and serving as Saxophone Teaching Assistant, Woodwind Area Assistant, and Jazz Ensemble Manager. During this time, he taught with ArtistCorps, a music education outreach program serving middle school, preschool, and charter school students in the Winston-Salem area, and maintained a private studio of beginner and intermediate clarinet and saxophone students.
